Day 55 Birdsville

A big day today. Had a huge feed a Mungerannie last night & left around 8 am this morning & arrived back at Birdsville around 1.30pm. We had tried to book a room but was booked out but they received a cancellation 5min before we arrived - so Faye was happy - no tent tonight.

After lunch went to go to Big Red but because of the floods they have a detour which is over heaps of sand dunes & 53 km to get to Big Red. At the 1st dune Percy wouldn't go into 4WD (a 4WD in front of us couldn't get over the 2nd dune) so after heaps of attempts gave up & went back to where the road was blocked by the water..


Climbed a nearby dune & when we got back into Percy the 4WD worked so we headed off again to Big Red. This was some of the sand work..


and we arrived at Big Red..


Up Percy went - nearly there!


A great view from the top & the Birdsville side is completely covered by water.












Of course Faye had to get to the highest point..


By the time we left there the sun was set so came back over the dunes in the dark. A late night tonight by the time we had tea & cleaned up. Back to Windorah tomorrow to collect The Eagle.
